Neal obviously knew enough about his subject to have kept going into the wee small hours but showed mercy on his audience by limiting his talk to a scratching of the surface of dahlia-lore. Excellent photographs of examples of the many different types provided inspiration for the rapt listeners and tips were given about cultivation, keeping plants over winter and creating new varieties. Slugs received a mention, yet the magic solution to these vermin appeared to be nothing more than regular evening rambles with a torch and a big bucket.
